An open invitation to participate in the 17th International Human Rights Film Festival in Buenos Aires
The Instituto Multimedia DerHumALC (IMD) is pleased to announce to directors, producers and national and international distributors that up until the 19th of January 2017 we will be accepting films for the 17th International Human Rights Film Festival.
This competitive cinematographic event will take place in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina, from May 31st to June 7th, 2017. The program for the event will be released in April, 2017.
The objective of the International Human Rights Film Festival is to present the best films that relate to social problems, the defense of human rights and environment from many original and different points of view, promoting in this way a critical cinema that contributes to social transformation.
Gathering a variety of formats and genres, from short films to feature length films, from documentaries to fiction, from animation to reports, the works exhibited, both national and international, they fulfill the intention of the International Human Rights Film Festival, to contribute to the construction of a Latin American identity, the value of memory and the projection of social problems throughout the world.

Who organizes the International Human Rights Film Festival?
The International Human Rights Film Festival, will reach in 2017 20 years of activity, is an initiative of the Instituto Multimedia DerHumALC (IMD), a not-for-profit association based in Buenos Aires. Created with the concern of strengthening investigation, study, education, diffusion and promotion of the Human Rights, through the use of audiovisual resources and new technologies intends to transcend from screen to action and to active debate with social organizations, filmmakers and audience.
The IMD has undertaken 16 successful editions of the International Human Rights Film Festival (FICDH), being a central axis of mobilization for social transformation. It gave shelter to important projects such as the largest Latin-American human rights and memory cinematographic archive with more than 6.000 movies; the Education in Human Rights through Cinema Program in high schools to promote social inclusion; the guide “How to organize a Socially Committed Film Festival” adapted and translated for free download and finally, giving birth to another big project, the International Environmental Film Festival (FINCA), which the 3rd edition took place recently in 2016. Furthermore, the IMD has been nominated, in 2016, to the Democracy Awards 8th Edition, organized by the Centro Cultural Caras y Caretas and is a founding member of one of the most important network of human rights film festivals: the Human Rights Film Network.
This 17th Edition will once again be presented alongside numerous debates, photography shows, sustainable product fairs and social associations, dance shows and theatre will also contribute to the debate generated by the cinematographic program from multiple and new points of view.
