FROM 1th TO 8th JUNE 2016, BUENOS AIRES
art and part of the change

The International Environmental Film Festival (FINCA) is a cinematographic event organized by Instituto Multimedia DerHumALC (IMD). This third edition will be held in more than 10 locations in the city of Buenos Aires and in 4 secondary venues in the province, from June 1st to 8th, 2016.

Under the slogan “Art and part of the change”, FINCA arises with the need to broaden cultural perspectives from a socially engaged approach towards environmental issues, exploring multiple and original points of view, therefore promoting a critical cinema that can contribute to social transformation.

A total of 56 films are to be shown, including feature films, short and medium-length films and documentaries. The films come from 24 countries, 10 from Latin America, 7 from Europe and 7 from other countries in the world, and will be screened under the following thematic sections: Mother Earth (Native Peoples, biodiversity), Climatic justice (climatic change, migrants and refugees), Energy horizons (energy exploitations and good practices: hydrocarbon, dams, mines and nuclear, solar and wind power), Econscience (urban projects within the spheres of architecture, recycling, responsible consumption, organic agriculture, etc.) and Food Sovereignty (sovereignty, safety, consumption).

This edition focuses on the urgent need to address the question of food sovereignty through different activities that will feature the distinguished international presence of the Ecofeminist activist and Indian philosopher Vandana Shiva and the French documentary maker Marie-Monique Robin.

Besides, FINCA’s third edition includes a wide variety of films from the “CineEco” Festival from Seia da Estrella, the only Portuguese environmental festival, which has been held since 1995 in the city of Seia, with its director Mário Branquinho.

For the first time, FINCA has now a section named Schools, including a schedule fully focused on environment, produced by several educational programs and social organizations for high-school children. What is more, we will have the The Human Cost of Agrotoxins Photographic Exhibition, by Pablo Piovano, more than 10 discussion panels and the traditional FINCA Fair.
