In 2002, escorted by the Ecuadorian army, the Argentine firm CGC (Compañía General de Combustibles, an oil company) trespassed on Sarayaku territory and buried 1,5 tons of pentolite, an explosive used in seismic exploration. The case was brought before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and established a historical precedent in the defense for indigenous peoples´ rights.
