Auca Mahuida is a protected natural area located in the north of Neuquén province. Within its boundaries, there are about 70 oil wells that affect this portion of the Patagonian flora and fauna. In 2013, the French company Total fracked one of the wells, turning Auca Mahuida into the first fractured natural area in the world.
