In the context of a festival that considers the right to a healthy environment a fundamental aspect of human rights, the Instituto Multimedia DerHumALC (IMD) and the Movies that Matter foundation are co-hosting the workshop in Latin America for the fi rst time during the week of the 4th FINCA. A workshop for 15 Latin Americans with their own projects for human rights fi lm showings and festivals, it aims at training participants in all cultural, technical and fi nancial aspects required to develop and optimize an event of this kind. During the workshop, participants will acquire practical knowledge regarding the organization of fi lm events with social engagement, strengthening their ability to assess fi lms and assemble a program, learning about the role of communication and how to reach their target audience by fostering the development of their own activities and integrating them into a worldwide network of human rights fi lm festivals.

She programmes and coordinates the Activist section, one of the main competition programmes at the Movies that Matter Festival held annually in the Hague, which features documentaries about human rights defenders. She also works for the International Support programme at Movies that Matter, which promotes and supports screenings of human rights film worldwide. Julie runs the secretariat of the Human Rights Film Network, a partnership of more than 40 human rights film festivals worldwide. She worked as a partnership coordinator at MasterPeace, a campaign that promotes actions for peace worldwide. In 2015, she joined the voluntary neighborhood committee of Amsterdam East that supports small-scale community projects in the area. She obtained a BSc in Cultural Anthropology and Development studies at Radboud University Nijmegen and a MA in Conflict Studies & Human Rights from Utrecht University.

María Carrión, journalist, human rights activist and cultural practitioner, is the former Executive Director of FiSahara, an annual film festival held in the Sahrawi refugee camps near the Algerian city of Tindouf. She is the co-founder of Concordia 21, a Madrid-based NGO that works on film and cultural projects in the Sahrawi refugee camps and in the Morocco-occupied Western Sahara with the aim of strengthening the struggle for justice, peace, human rights and self-determination of the Sahrawi people.

Born in 1982 in Buenos Aires, she graduated in Arts from the University of Buenos Aires and as film critic from the El Amante school. She became involved in the world of film festivals in 2007, working mainly as a programmer for several editions of FICDH and FINCA, among others, and as a jury member for international film events. In 2013, she founded Copia Cero, a company that provides translation and subtitling services. She made her producing debut with the documentary Monger (2017).

A 27-year-old, he is the founder of Contra-Peso, an NGO that uses film as a social transformation tool in peace processes through participatory methods for young audiences. He studied human rights documentary filmmaking through the Ibermedia program and the Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar in Bolivia. He obtained a degree in Peace culture from the Universidad Centroamericana en El Salvador and participated in the International Film Festivals workshop organized by the Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión-EICTV in Cuba. He is currently Head of Culture of the municipality of Colón, in his country.

I am a visual anthropologist, interested in feminist ethnologies production. I am currently part of Vivas en la Memoria (Living Through Memory), a project about building memories on femicides in Mexico. I am a cultural promoter in CECOS, a self-managed, independent cultural center, located in the city of Nezahualcóyotl. I was part of the organization team for first and second editions of Ecuador's Ethnographic Film Festival. In 2017, I conducted an audiovisual ethnography about kichwas midwives, in the Ecuadorian Amazon region.

Documentary filmmaker and photographer, he was born in La Plata where he studied Audiovisual Communication in UNLP. He studied Photography Direction in the Centro de Formación Profesional SICA (CFP SICA). He’s lived in Chile, Brazil, and Mexico. In 2016 he started living in the Argentine province of Cordoba, where he works as Postproduction coordinator in the filmmaking company El Calefón Cine. He holds a postgraduate degree in Theories and Practices of the Contemporary Documentary from UNC. He is now presenting his documentary La Unidad de los Pájaros in Mexico, Guatemala and the United States alongside the project MUROS (IN)VISIBLES. He is preproducing the first audiovisual exhibition on Human Rights in Cordoba, Argentina.

She’s had a long and widely recognized career in audiovisual filmmaking. She’s won several screenwriting development projects from Fondos CORFO to create the documentaries Newen Mapuche 2005 and Sueños del comandante 2006. Selected for the screenplay section in the film festival of La Habana (2003). The making of her documentary Newen Mapuche, Fuerza de la gente de la tierra has received worldwide recognition, winning more than 14 awards in festivals.

General Director and creator of the International Deaf Film Festival of Argentina. Image and Sound Designer (Universidad de Palermo). He teaches filmmaking workshops in Argentinian Sign Language (LSA) for deaf people. He is the only deaf person who has received an education in the audiovisual arts in Argentina.

Born the 7th July 1982 in the City of Mexico, Harumi Giles holds a college degree in Law awarded by Escuela Libre de Derecho of Puebla, she received the honorary mention in Legal Sociology and went on to specialize in Corporate Law in Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo of Mexico. Her work experience comes from the private sector and since 2010 she has worked in the Mexican offices of General Motors as project coordinator. Since she was a child, she held a strong conviction to help others and she managed to start the project Colectivo Cine Social as the founding voluntary. One of her favorite phrases was said by Margaret Mead: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has”.

Fernando Mendoza is a young Peruvian director and composer. He was born in 1991 in the city of Trujillo and received a varied musical education from childhood.
In 2014, after leaving his career as an electronic engineer, he began making his first short films. In 2015 he moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina to study at the Professional Film School of Eliseo Subiela.
He has produced and directed 5 short films between fiction and documentary which have been shown at various film festivals in Latin America and Europe. He currently works as a composer and technician in the audiovisual media of Buenos Aires.

For almost 15 years Karen Fraenkel has worked in independent productions and participated in numerous productions for the film industry, TV, photography, theatre, events, training, etc, working with several directors and producers both from Paraguay and abroad, performing various roles in different stages of production and in projects with different features (100% locals, coproductions between 2 or 3 countries); she has worked mainly with projects that put an emphasis in the cultural, social, and artistic aspects.
Fraenkel initially studied Business Administration and later on studied in several workshops to learn about production, management, culture, etc, both in Paraguay and overseas. In 2015 she was a part of “EAVE/Puentes” and Talents Buenos Aires, where she was the first producer from Paraguay in these prestigious events.

She holds a master’s degree in Exhibition and Curatorship in Cinema from the University of Edinburgh (United Kingdom), she has experience in audiovisual production, video editing, and event planning in the filmmaking industry, paying special attention to film selection and logistics planning. Isabel Cuadros Pedroza has participated numerous times as a voluntary in film festivals like San Sebastián, Punto de Vista in Spain, OxDocs, Glasgow and Edinburgh in the United Kingdom. She is now working as the coordinator of the programme in the film festival Ambulante Colombia.

Lupe Benites graduated from the University of Lima in Audiovisual Communication and is an independent filmmaker with 10 years’ experience in Amazonia, developing film projects about socio-environmental issues. In 2012, she won a national contest for special projects in the children’s feature film category with the film project Celeste y el pequeño Sajino, as well as the National Short Film Contest with El Huallaga, both organized by the ministry of Culture of Peru. Besides, she is a cultural manager, educator and coordinator of film festivals centered upon Amazonia and environmental issues. She is currently working on the post-production of her third short film Dalila: la guardiana del Monte and was selected to attend the Cinema Without Borders Latin America 2018 (Argentina).

26 years old. He holds a college degree as a Communication Technician and filmmaker. He is one of the founding partners of Manda Productora, a business that makes audiovisual projects with a documentary focus. Matias Minahk takes part in the communication team of Andhes Derechos Humanos. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Tucumán Audiovisual (A Civil Association of Audiovisual Workers in Tucumán). He is now working in the making of his first documentary feature film Yo soy Paul (I am Paul), the story of a young transgender man who went through his gender and identity transition while he suffered an incarceration that lasted 12 years.

She is now working with projects that look to empower people to see their identity, their territory, to safeguard their culture, such as FINCALI, where she works as a producer since its origins.
